KUDUS – The excitement surrounding the final matches of the Hydroplus Bupati Cup XX 2026 is beginning to fade. Athletes are leaving the arena with varying outcomes; while some celebrate securing championship titles, others are coming to terms with defeat in the finals. Yet, for both groups, the final match represented far more than just a place on the podium.

Muhammad Ragil Fahrudin of PB E’France Kudus concluded the competition by capturing the title in the men's junior singles category. Meanwhile, his club teammate, Fakhriyan Zaidan Nabil, finished as the runner-up following his loss in the final round.

These results mark only a fraction of their respective journeys throughout the tournament. Behind each final match lies a rigorous routine of training, physical conditioning, strategic preparation, family support, coaching guidance, and the invaluable experience they carry home from the arena.

For Ragil, victory at the Hydroplus Bupati Cup XX 2026 holds special significance. Not only did he walk away as the champion, but it also marked his first time standing atop the podium in his competitive career.

“I am happy and proud to be a champion,” Ragil said.

The path to the final was not without its challenges. One of the most difficult situations he faced was competing against a teammate. The familiarity between training partners did not make the match any easier, as Ragil had to remain focused to avoid losing his concentration.

“The hardest part is maintaining consistency when playing against a club teammate,” he explained.

Throughout the tournament, Ragil focused on his physical fitness and tactical play until the very last point. His family provided crucial support, attending the matches in person to cheer him on from the sidelines.

He noted that reaching the final remains his most memorable moment, as it served as a breakthrough experience that ultimately led to his first championship title.

“Reaching the final is what I remember most, as it was my first time winning,” he shared.

Following his victory, Ragil dedicated the title to his parents, acknowledging that his achievement was made possible by the unwavering support he has received throughout his athletic journey.

Fakhriyan Learns from the Final

Just a short distance from Ragil’s celebration, Fakhriyan concluded the tournament with a different result. Despite the disappointment of falling in the final, the journey remained a valuable learning experience.

Fakhriyan had undergone intensive training in preparation for the tournament. In the wake of the final match, he is looking beyond the result to identify specific areas for future improvement.

"I need to train harder because there are still areas to improve if I want to win first place," he said.

One key takeaway from his final match was his physical condition. Fakhrian admitted that his sub-optimal stamina affected his performance in the final.

"It was mainly my physical condition; I lost because my fitness was not where it needed to be," he remarked.

He now intends to address these issues by resuming training and working on his fitness to better prepare for future competitions.

Despite falling short of the top title, Fakhrian remained appreciative of his experience in the tournament.

"It was a good experience, even if I didn't take first place," he added.

For him, the loss in the final does not diminish the progress made throughout the tournament. Instead, the final match provided him with a clear view of the areas of his game that still require development.

Continued Motivation

Behind the performances of Ragil and Fakhrian, coaches closely monitor their development from practice through to competition. Nico Meysia Putra Pratama, head coach of PB E’France Kudus, noted that the club sent 16 athletes across several age groups, ranging from children and beginners to junior levels.

Throughout the tournament, Nico observed development in his athletes regarding their mental fortitude, technique, shot selection, and physical fitness. For Ragil, one notable improvement was his increasing mental readiness as the competition progressed.

"The progress is primarily in his mentality; he has developed more of a champion's mindset, and his technique, strokes, and fitness have also improved," he explained.

Nico believes that maintaining mental conditioning is just as vital as technical preparation. Young athletes often experience fluctuations in confidence when playing before large crowds.

"The biggest challenge is maintaining the athletes' mentality, as performance can dip when facing a large audience," he said.

Consequently, consistent motivation is provided throughout the matches. Athletes are encouraged to stay competitive and maintain their focus until the final point is scored.

In the final, Nico noted that the drive to win was instrumental in helping Ragil perform as prepared.

"Perhaps it was his spirit—the desire to be a champion and the drive to win were the keys in the final," Nico stated.

With the Hydroplus Bupati Cup XX 2026 now concluded, the journey for the PB E’France Kudus athletes continues. The beginner athletes are being prepared for future tournaments, including the Sirnas C in Yogyakarta and various championships scheduled in Kudus.

Family Support

For young athletes, the road to the court extends beyond the arena, with families playing an integral role in the process.

Dwi Ernawati, mother of Fakhriyan, has been supporting her son at matches since he was in the third grade. She strives to attend every tournament Fakhriyan enters, whether for singles or doubles events.

“I always accompany my son, always showing up to support him in any tournament,” she said.

Over the years, Dwi has witnessed Fakhriyan's mental development. Defeats never discouraged him; instead, he would often tell his mother that he remained determined to succeed.

“He is very passionate, excited for every match, telling me, ‘I have to be able to do this, Mom,’” Dwi recounted.

For Dwi, her pride in Fakhriyan extends beyond victory, as she views every effort and point fought on the court as an essential part of his journey.

She hopes Fakhriyan maintains his training discipline as long as he desires to compete in badminton.

The family's presence underscores that tournaments are more than just brief events; behind every athlete lies a network of support that shares in their training, matches, victories, and defeats.

Hopes for Emerging Talent

The athletes' journey is central to the goals of the Hydroplus Bupati Cup XX 2026. Organizing Committee Chair Widhoro Heriyanto stated that the competition is designed not only to crown winners but also to serve as a platform for identifying new talent.

“Through this event, we hope to develop the next generation to succeed their seniors,” he said.

For young athletes, increased competitive opportunities translate into vital experience. They are able to test the skills honed in training against real-world opponents and match conditions.

This experience does not always result in a win. Some athletes discover the strengths of their game, while others identify areas for improvement; both outcomes remain critical to their long-term development.

Competitions also provide exposure to the pressures of an audience, opponents, and unpredictable situations that cannot be replicated during club practice.

Therefore, final results are not the sole measure of an athlete's progression. For organizers, the value of the competition lies in providing athletes the space to grow and prepare for their future endeavors.

Opportunities for MSMEs

Throughout the competition, the venue was packed with more than just athletes and coaches; families and spectators also turned out in force, creating a vibrant atmosphere on the final day.

This surge in activity provided a boost for local small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Heny Safitri, a local food and beverage vendor, set up shop during the event.

She offered a variety of items, including local Kudus orange juice, grilled sandwiches, and noodles. According to Heny, the final day saw significantly higher traffic compared to earlier rounds.

“It’s usually fairly quiet on typical days, but the final has been quite busy since this morning,” she said.

Grilled sandwiches and noodles were among the most popular items, while the local Kudus orange juice maintained steady, albeit typical, sales.

For Heny, participating in such sporting events serves as a vital opportunity to introduce her products to a wider audience.

“It helps grow our small businesses. Sales are decent here, and it allows more people to discover our products,” she explained.

She expressed hope that more sporting events will be organized in the future to provide a platform for MSMEs to reach new customers.

Self-Improvement

As the Hydroplus Bupati Cup XX 2026 concluded, Ragil and Fakhriyan ended their campaigns with different outcomes. Ragil secured the first-place title, gaining valuable experience from his first major final and victory. Fakhriyan took home second place, along with insights into the physical conditioning he needs to improve.

However, their journeys extend beyond the podium.

Ragil has further training and upcoming competitions to prepare for, while Fakhriyan is focused on building his stamina and addressing the weaknesses identified in his final match. Coaches will continue to provide support, and their families remain an essential part of their journey beyond the field.

Amidst the matches, spectators came to offer support and local vendors capitalized on the event's activity. While everyone occupied the same space, each brought their own unique experience.

While the final match determines the champion, every athlete leaves with a different story to tell.

Some head home with trophies earned on the pitch, while others return with a critical assessment of their performance gaps. Both take valuable experience from Kudus to fuel their continued training and progression as athletes. (DN/HNR/mainkekudus)
