Sapphire Boutique Hotel Provides Unique Experience for Singapore and Saudi Arabia U-16 Women's National Teams
KUDUS – For participants of the 2026 Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup traveling from abroad, the tournament experience extends well beyond the pitch. During their stay in Kudus, they have engaged in various off-field activities, including recovery and preparation for upcoming match schedules.
The Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus served as the host for athletes and officials from Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia throughout the tournament. The arrival of an international sporting delegation required the hotel to tailor its services to meet the specific needs of its guests.

Preparations were underway well before the groups arrived in Kudus. Several officials conducted site visits in late July to ensure all necessary accommodations were in place.
Andri Santoso, Food and Beverage Manager at Sapphire Hotel Kudus, noted that the hotel renovated several rooms in anticipation of the guests, making adjustments to accommodate the teams throughout the tournament.

“To prepare for this event, we first focused on upgrading and improving our rooms to ensure maximum comfort for our guests, especially those traveling from abroad,” said Andri.
During the tournament, all 93 rooms at the Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus were fully occupied. Approximately 110 athletes and officials from the three countries stayed at the property for up to two weeks, starting in early August 2026.

The extended duration of stay requires hotel preparations that differ significantly from standard overnight bookings. Beyond ensuring rooms are ready, the hotel has reconfigured several spaces to accommodate the equipment and gear of the visiting delegations.
For the Sapphire, preparing for international sports delegations serves as a baseline for creating a guest experience tailored to the participants' specific needs. Given the tight tournament schedule and the duration of their stay, the hotel began coordinating requirements well before the guests arrived.
Room preparation is just the start of various service adjustments provided during the teams' stay in Kudus. Everything from dining and language support to staff interaction has been customized to ensure a seamless experience.

With these preparations, the Sapphire aims to do more than just house competitors; the hotel is providing dedicated services that align with the requirements of guests from various nations throughout the Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026.
Tailored Services for Every Team
The experience of international guests at the Sapphire Boutique Hotel is defined by services personalized to each delegation’s specific needs, recognizing that customs and cultural backgrounds vary significantly between countries.
Dietary requirements are a primary focus. Given the tournament schedule, nutrition is critical to the athletes' performance, both pre- and post-match, and consumption needs vary from one team to another.

This is particularly evident in the hotel's hospitality for the delegation from Saudi Arabia. The hotel specifically brought in a chef from Saudi Arabia to prepare meals tailored to the team’s cultural and nutritional standards.
"Specifically for their food, we brought in a chef directly from Saudi Arabia to prepare their meals," said Andri Santoso, Food and Beverage Manager at the Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus.
Language support has also been prioritized. The hotel has provided translators to facilitate communication between the delegations and staff, including during meal preparation. These translators also assist during team meetings to ensure that information and requests are clearly conveyed.
Meanwhile, communication with the Singaporean delegation was relatively seamless. With Malay and English widely used in daily conversation, staff avoided the significant language barriers faced when assisting other international guests.
These disparities meant that service could not follow a uniform approach for every team. Sapphire management recognized the need to understand each group's unique requirements and tailor its services accordingly during their hotel stay.
For the guests, accommodations such as recruiting an Arab chef and providing interpreters made their activities more comfortable. For Sapphire, this experience reflects a commitment to providing personalized service for international visitors, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
When a Hotel Becomes a Space for Cultural Exchange
The experience of international guests at Sapphire was shaped by more than just the services provided; their daily interactions with staff while in Kudus were equally significant.
Hesti Noviyanti, a receptionist at Hotel Sapphire, was among the staff members who engaged directly with the participants. She noted that serving guests from various nations offered a unique experience compared to her routine responsibilities.

“I am happy and delighted to serve people from various countries. We can learn more about their cultures, especially their food, languages, and souvenirs,” said Hesti.
Some guests from Singapore and Saudi Arabia inquired about Kudus, seeking information on local attractions and cultural norms. When questions arose, they turned to Hesti for guidance.
“If they are unsure about something, they usually ask me directly as the receptionist,” she explained.
For Hesti, these interactions provided a window into the customs and cultures of other nations. Conversely, for the participants, conversations with staff served as a valuable source of information about the city they were visiting.
This cross-cultural experience took another form on August 18, 2026, when the Singapore U-16 Women’s National Team and the Saudi Arabian team were treated to a performance by the Eduwisata team from SMK Raden Umar Said (RUS) Kudus at the Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus.

The RUS Kudus Eduwisata team showcased traditional angklung, rebana, and modern musical arrangements. The athletes were then invited to try their hand at the traditional instruments, taking turns playing the angklung while chatting and bonding with their teammates.
For the participants, the musical workshop offered a refreshing break from their rigorous training and match schedules. The athletes showed great enthusiasm for the bamboo instruments, and the Singapore U-16 Women’s National Team captured the moment with photos alongside the Raden Umar Said students.

While not part of the official match schedule, these casual activities provided participants the opportunity to interact with local residents and experience a piece of the local culture in Kudus.

For Sapphire, such moments are an essential part of the experience offered to international guests. The engagement between staff, athletes, and local students allowed participants to see a side of Kudus beyond the football pitch.
Athletes' Experience Beyond the Pitch
For the athletes, their time at the hotel was a routine part of the tournament. Between matches, they returned to the hotel to rest, eat, recover, and bond with teammates before their next scheduled engagement.
Klarisa Putri Kurniawan, a midfielder for the Indonesia Women's National Team (Putri Nusantara) from Surabaya, was among the players staying at the Sapphire during the tournament. While not her first visit to Kudus, the Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup marked her debut stay at the hotel.

"The Sapphire Hotel is excellent. The service is very good," the 15-year-old said.
During her stay, Klarisa utilized her time at the hotel to dine, rest, and engage in activities with her teammates. Spaghetti was among her favorite menu items.
Klarisa also made use of the hotel’s swimming pool between matches. She swam at least twice, including sessions following ice baths and post-match recovery.

The swimming pool at the Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus was utilized as an ice bath for participants of the Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026, helping athletes recover between matches.
For players whose schedules are dominated by training and competition, simple activities like swimming also provide a chance to unwind with teammates.
"It’s also an opportunity to play with friends," she said.
For Klarisa, dining, swimming, and socializing are integral parts of the tournament experience. Meanwhile, for Sapphire, the available facilities provide a comfortable space for athletes to relax outside of competition.
This experience highlights that an athlete's time during a tournament is not solely focused on competition. Breaks for rest, recovery, meals, and social time are essential. At Sapphire, these simple activities become part of their overall stay in Kudus.
Stays Offer Opportunities to Explore Kudus
For participants visiting from outside the region, opportunities to explore the host city often arise during their daily routines, including interactions at their accommodations.
Klarisa, who has visited Kudus several times, noted that she has yet to sample the local cuisine during the Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026 but hopes to do so before departing.
Such simple desires show that cultural discovery often stems from conversations and recommendations received at the hotel. A similar dynamic was seen in Hesti's interactions with international guests inquiring about local landmarks and culture.
For Sapphire, these exchanges are a key part of hosting guests from around the world. While participants visit primarily for competition, their time at the hotel offers chances to engage with staff, try new things, and discover local elements.
According to Andri, hosting sporting events and corporate gatherings brings visitors to Kudus for several days, driving demand for accommodation and services.
"I hope events like this can be held annually. Despite being a regency, Kudus is highly capable of hosting national and international events," he said.
The Caffino Srikandi Merdeka Cup 2026 provided a unique experience for Sapphire in hosting international sports teams. The Singapore and Saudi Arabia U-16 Women's National Teams not only received hospitality services but also engaged with staff, explored hotel amenities, and encountered local cultural elements.
Ultimately, the tournament experience is defined by more than just match results. It includes moments of dining, resting, swimming, chatting with staff, trying the angklung, and learning about Kudus, all of which contribute to their journey.
For the Sapphire Boutique Hotel Kudus, hosting international guests is an opportunity to provide hospitality that transcends standard accommodation services. Through personalized care and meaningful interactions, Sapphire has become part of the participants' experience in discovering Kudus. (OEB/mainkekudus)
