Background
Kartono remains a central figure in the record of Indonesian badminton achievements. Renowned as a doubles specialist, he was a formidable force during the 1970s. After winning numerous national titles, he earned a spot on the national training team in 1974. His notable international successes include securing All England men's doubles titles with Heryanto in 1981 and 1984, along with Indonesia Open championships in 1982 and 1983. He later partnered with Liem Swie King to win the Indonesia Open in 1985 and 1986.
