Padel features a distinct gameplay style. Unlike conventional tennis or badminton, padel blends elements of both sports on a more compact court enclosed by glass walls and metal fencing.
Exelino Setyo Dilanviano, Guest Relation Officer at Peepz Coffee & Padel, noted that public enthusiasm is high. Visitors are not just local residents of Kudus, but also hail from neighboring cities including Semarang, Jepara, Pati, and Rembang.

"Padel requires a team—two versus two. It's a great way to interact with new people and build connections," he said.
The two-on-two format fosters a social atmosphere. Padel courts have evolved from purely competitive spaces into venues for social interaction, where beginners can play alongside experienced players. These encounters often lead to lasting friendships beyond the court.

Peepz Coffee & Padel differentiates itself through tech-integrated service. QR codes at each table allow players to order food and drinks directly from their phones, eliminating the need to queue at the counter.
Exel added that light snacks and sweets are the most popular post-match orders.
"For those playing Padel, sticky rice and sweet treats are the most popular orders, as they provide a necessary energy boost after a workout," she noted.
Peepz Coffee offers a variety of both coffee and non-coffee drinks. A favorite among customers is the Sweet Butter, a coffee milk blend known for its smooth texture and savory-sweet flavor profile. For those seeking immediate refreshment, the fruit-based drinks, particularly the berry variants, are a popular choice.

For its enthusiasts, padel serves as an effective way to reconnect with people lost to the demands of daily life. Aprilliana, a Kudus-based bank employee who plays padel weekly with her husband, shared her experience. Before the sport gained popularity, she was a regular tennis player.

"Once padel started becoming popular here, I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a good fit," she said.
She found the game relatively accessible yet strategically demanding. Players must look beyond physical movement and focus on tactical execution.
"Padel is low-impact, but it requires mental effort. Theory and practice are balanced here. It is not just about playing; it is really about the fun of it," the bank employee continued.
For Aprilliana, padel has also provided an opportunity to cross paths with old friends. During her weekend matches, she often encounters high school classmates, childhood acquaintances, and business colleagues. These chance meetings in the same arena frequently turn into spontaneous reunions in the cafe area.
"When I play padel with my husband, I almost always run into old friends. People I haven't seen in a long time—high school friends, friends of friends. It helps me reconnect," she explained.
Lia Nur Hidayah discovered padel on Instagram after seeing friends play. Like others, she was previously a regular tennis player.
Upon joining the padel community, Lia discovered an inclusive environment where players of all skill levels are welcomed. Experienced players regularly compete alongside beginners learning the fundamentals of the sport.

According to Lia, this environment makes padel a welcoming space for meeting new people. Friendships often begin with simple conversations on the court, extending long after the game concludes.
“It is a great way to make new friends. For instance, we might meet here and then continue our conversation over coffee later,” she said.
For community players, grabbing coffee after a match is more than just a break. It is an opportunity to socialize in a relaxed setting, free from the intensity of the game. Conversations that start mid-match often shift to a cafe table, allowing community members to build stronger connections off the court.
As a doctor at PKU Muhammadiyah Mayong, Lia also views padel through the lens of physical activity.
Drawing from her experience in both tennis and padel, she notes that nearly every part of the body is engaged during play.
“Padel is a high-intensity sport. It is not just your arms or legs that feel the fatigue, but your entire body, as it requires full-body movement,” she explained.
Consequently, she advises beginners not to jump into the sport without preparation. Warming up and learning proper techniques remain essential to ensure safe and effective movement.
Lia also emphasizes the importance of protecting joints, particularly the wrists. Players should master basic techniques to avoid injury-prone errors.
For those who have never tried the sport, she encourages people not to be intimidated.
“Do not be afraid of making mistakes, and do not be afraid to start. Just give it a try. You will be hooked,” she said.

The social habit of playing and then lingering for a drink is supported by venues that offer both facilities in one location.
Salzavira Belliananda Birton, owner of Peepz Coffee & Padel, stated that the introduction of padel in Kudus was driven by her desire to bring a new, previously unavailable sport to the region.

"Padel was not yet available in Kudus. It is a new sport, and seeing the positive trend in the region, I felt confident in opening this facility," she said.
According to Belliananda, players are not exclusively from Kudus; residents from neighboring areas such as Pati and Jepara have also visited to try the sport.
Integrating the court and the café in a single location provides convenience for players, allowing them to rest, eat, drink, and socialize without needing to leave the premises.

Belliananda hopes for increased public awareness of padel and the continued growth of the local community.
"My hope is that more people will enjoy padel and be willing to give it a try. I want to see the sport continue to develop in Kudus, particularly as the community expands," she added.
This sentiment reflects a shift in how the public approaches sports; physical activity is no longer just about exercise, but has become an opportunity for dining and socialization.
The experience of players like Aprilliana and Lia illustrates this transition. Through padel, they have not only discovered a new hobby but also found an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and expand their social circles.
The facility serves a dual purpose: the court acts as a competitive arena, while the café offers a space to unwind and engage in casual conversation.
Amidst busy routines, padel has emerged as a popular social activity. By combining exercise, social interaction, and post-match relaxation, the sport has become an integral part of the community lifestyle in Kudus. (OEB/mainkekudus)
