KUDUS – Nestled on the slopes of Mount Muria in Kajar Village, Dawe District, Kudus Regency, Pijar Park offers a nature-focused retreat set against a pine forest backdrop. The destination serves as a multifaceted recreation area featuring outdoor activities, culinary offerings, educational experiences, and family-oriented attractions.

The park’s cool mountain climate and pine forests are the primary draws for visitors. Beyond its role as a family recreation site, the area features camping grounds, culinary centers, cafes, playgrounds, swimming pools, and various photo spots popular with tourists.

Pijar Park was developed through a community-led initiative in Kajar Village starting in 2021. The project aims to harness the area’s natural potential while empowering local residents through community-based tourism management.

The site has become a significant contributor to the tourism sector in Kudus Regency. According to 2025 visitor data released by the Kudus Communication and Informatics Office, the region’s top 10 tourist attractions recorded a total of 3,398,329 visits throughout 2025.

The Menara Kudus Mosque led the rankings with 1,913,120 visitors, followed by the Sunan Muria Tomb with 840,751. Other major attractions included Pijar Park, Rahtawu Village, the Jenang Museum, Irons Waterpark, Kretek Water Park, the Kretek Museum, Wonosoco Village, and Taman Krida Wisata.

Pijar Park’s inclusion among the most popular destinations highlights its vital role in supporting the regional tourism economy. Meanwhile, the high visitor numbers for Menara Kudus and the Sunan Muria Tomb underscore that religious tourism remains a primary draw for the region.

Pijar Park General Manager Puji Harto noted that the development of the park stemmed from the local community's efforts to capitalize on the natural potential of the Kajar Village pine forest.

According to Harto, before its transformation into a tourist destination, the area served as a campsite and a local asset. It was subsequently developed into a community-oriented tourism product. The development objective is to establish Pijar as a tourist attraction that provides benefits to the local community while becoming a premier destination in Kudus Regency.

The name "Pijar" is rooted in the region's identity. Puji Harto explained that "Pijar" is an acronym for "Pinus Kajar" (Kajar Pine). Beyond referencing the pine forest as the area's primary identifier, the name also carries a philosophical meaning as something that illuminates.

The pine forest remains a central component of the tourism experience. Its natural landscape serves as the primary backdrop for visitors' activities throughout the site.

In addition to enjoying the natural surroundings, visitors can participate in various activities at Pijar Park, such as the Jeep Adventure, which takes guests through the Muria mountain trails in specialized off-road vehicles.

This activity offers a unique way to enjoy the mountain region. Through the Pijar Jeep Adventure service, visitors are taken on a guided tour along trails skirting the slopes of Mount Muria.

Within the same area, various culinary options and lounge spaces are available for visitors. A food center and several cafes have been established to complement the recreational activities on-site.

According to management, the facilities are being developed in stages to support the needs of travelers from various regions. Currently, several amenities are already operational and managed within the tourism site.

• Educational sessions on making Nyimut cassava cakes.
• Jeep Adventure services.
• Guided tour packages to the heritage coffee factory in the Jolong area.
• Various educational activities including botany, cooking classes, and integrated camping.

Educational facilities are a key part of the attractions developed in the area. Visitors can participate in coffee-themed tours and other educational activities designed for children and school groups.

Location and Directions

Pijar Park is located in Kajar Village, Dawe District, Kudus Regency, approximately 15 kilometers from Kudus City center. The site is accessible by motorcycle or car via the road leading to the Sunan Muria tomb area.

From the Simpang Tujuh Kudus Square, travelers can reach Pijar Park by following the main road north toward Dawe and the Muria tourist area. Continue along the road toward Colo until reaching Kajar Village. Signs directing visitors to Pijar Park are posted along the route toward the park, which is situated on the slopes of Mount Muria. This is the same route used by travelers heading to the Sunan Muria pilgrimage site.

Puji Harto noted that management also offers tours to the heritage coffee factory in the Jolong area, where visitors can learn about coffee production processes and view historic facilities still preserved at the site.

Visitors can also participate in various activity packages that blend elements of nature, culture, and education. These programs often invite guests to observe local community activities as part of the immersive tourism experience.

Management stated that educational packages remain a key focus of ongoing development, catering to both students and the general public seeking learning-oriented travel experiences.

These facilities and diverse activities have attracted visitors from across the region, including school groups during holidays, domestic travelers from various Indonesian cities, and international tourists.

Puji Harto noted that the site attracts international visitors, including tourists from countries such as the Netherlands and Turkey. Foreign visitation occurs regularly, with international guests arriving approximately once a month.

The site is managed independently by the local community. Puji Harto explained that Pijar Park is operated entirely by local management, with proceeds contributing to village revenue to support local operations and community programs.

Entrance tickets to Pijar Park are currently priced at Rp10,000 per person, with a parking fee of Rp5,000 for cars, according to official policies.

The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. WIB. Located approximately 15 kilometers from Kudus city center, it is accessible by both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles via the route toward the Sunan Muria Tomb.

Hygiene and safety are prioritized, with management enforcing strict cleanliness protocols for the park and its waste disposal systems.

Safety measures involve the local community, including the youth organization (Karang Taruna), which manages parking, visitor services, and site surveillance. Management stated that these oversight systems are in place to maintain high service and operational standards.

Pijar Park’s visitor experience has left a positive impression on guests. LJO, a tourist from Denpasar, Bali, stated that they learned about the location through family recommendations.

He noted that the decision to visit followed a suggestion from family members who were intrigued by information about the tourist area. Upon arrival, he found the natural atmosphere of Pijar Park to be particularly memorable.

He identified the natural scenery as the primary draw, noting that the cloud formations, mountain ambiance, and fresh air were the highlights of his experience. During his visit, he spent most of his time taking photographs and exploring the various corners of the park.

Meanwhile, Retno, a tourist from Bandung, West Java, suggested that the area's potential could be further enhanced by incorporating activities that continue to leverage its natural features.

She proposed utilizing local coffee plantations for educational programs or seasonal tourism activities, noting that coffee-related experiences would provide an attractive new option for visitors.

Retno also emphasized the importance of environmental conservation amid the ongoing development of the area, arguing that nature remains the key draw and that a balance must be maintained between facility expansion and ecological preservation.

This perspective aligns with the management’s development strategy. Puji Harto confirmed that Pijar Park is committed to sustainable growth, with plans to introduce new attractions and facilities in phases.

The management also aims to boost repeat visitation, hoping that new rides, facilities, and activity packages will provide compelling reasons for guests to return.

Nestled in the pine forests on the slopes of Mount Muria, Pijar Park continues to evolve as a destination blending nature, education, culinary experiences, and family-oriented activities.
